Day 1: Begin Your Trek from Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Your journey to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, starts at Machame Gate. After being briefed by your tour company, you'll be picked up from your hotel around 8 AM and driven to the trailhead. Expect a few hours of driving from Moshi to reach Machame Gates. The Machame route initially follows a gravel road through a dense forest before transitioning into a proper trekking trail as it ascends the mountain. The first day's trek will have a steady slope, with a well-shaded path and towering tree branches overhead. As you'll be at an elevation of approximately 2,000 m and trekking in the afternoon, there may be light showers, so pack a rain jacket in your daypack. Eventually, you'll reach Machame Camp (2,835 m), where your camp will be set up by the porters. Make sure to pack enough layers for the upcoming days of the trek.

Day 2: Trek from Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp

Elevation: 3,750 m (12,300 ft)
On the second day, start early for better visibility as Kilimanjaro is often clear in the mornings. After breakfast around 8 AM, begin your trek through a moorland, witnessing the impressive Mt. Meru on the skyline. After an hour, reach a resting point with panoramic vistas of Kilimanjaro. Then, continue trekking steeply for 2 hours through the moorland before reaching a plateau. The trail becomes more undulating for about an hour until you reach Shira Cave Camp. Arriving around 12 PM, have lunch and rest before an acclimatization trek to Shira Camp 2 at 4 PM. This 1.5-hour roundtrip trek provides a different view and helps with altitude acclimatization. Shira Cave Camp earned its name due to the presence of caves, although spending the night in them is now prohibited. Stay active at this high altitude and enjoy the night sky. Hydration is crucial, and prepare for colder night

Day 3: Shira Cave Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Today's trek starts from Shira Cave Camp with a picturesque view of Moshi. If you have the energy, don't miss the sunrise at the viewpoint. The trail becomes exposed as it enters the volcanic desert area. The trek begins with a steady trek, featuring ups and downs along a winding trail that lasts for over 4.5 hours. Afterward, you'll reach Lava Tower Camp, situated at an elevation of 4,630m above sea level. This massive lava rock serves as a reminder of Kilimanjaro's active past. While many people choose to have lunch at Lava Tower, we will continue for another hour to Barranco Camp, our destination for the third night. Take some time to capture photos of this stunning plant before reaching Barranco Camp in approximately an hour. At Barranco Camp, enjoy some rest before dinner and recharge for the next day's adventure.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

On the fourth day of the Kilimanjaro trek, you'll face the Barranco Wall, a steep trek lasting about an hour. Despite its appearance, it's not as difficult as it seems. After conquering the wall, take in the breathtaking view of Kilimanjaro from the top. The trail to Karanga Camp takes around 3 hours with moderate difficulty, you'll have lunch here before continuing to Barafu Camp. The journey from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp takes about 3-4 hours. Prepare for a cold night due to constant winds. Since the next day is the summit day, rest is crucial. Sleep early, around 7 PM, and wake up at midnight to begin the final ascent. You'll have around 12 hours of trekking ahead, with limited sleep. Be sure to charge your electronics and keep them close to retain battery life. Pack all necessary layers and gear for the challenging day ahead. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, have dinner, prepare for the briefing from your guide, and get much-needed rest. Preserve your energy for the summit day.

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to High Camp

At 12 AM, your ascent to the top of Kilimanjaro begins. It's a challenging trek that lasts through the night, with subzero temperatures and strong winds. Push through the difficulties by focusing on your feet and taking it slow. Stay warm and hydrated. After a while, you'll reach Stellar Point (5,756 m), a plateau on the way to the highest point. From there, it's just an hour's trek on a simple trail to reach Uhuru Peak, standing at an impressive 5,895m above sea level. Take photos at the famous Kilimanjaro sign, celebrating your achievement. Enjoy the moment before beginning the descent. The descent to Barafu Camp takes about 3 hours. Your guide will lead you on a shortcut route, cutting the trekking time in half. After resting at Barafu Camp, continue the descent for another 4 hours until you reach High Camp. Rest for the night at High Camp.

Today marks the final leg of your Kilimanjaro adventure. After a refreshing night's sleep at High Camp, savor a well-deserved breakfast while taking in the majestic sight of the peak behind you. Following breakfast, begin your descent towards Mweka Camp. The trek to Mweka Camp typically takes around one hour, followed by an additional three hours to reach Mweka Gate. At the gate, you'll receive a certificate celebrating your achievement of reaching both Stellar Point and Uhuru Peak. Once you have your certificate in hand, enjoy a satisfying lunch at the gate. Afterwards, your driver will transport you back to Moshi, where you can indulge in a warm shower and relax on a comfortable bed for the first time in six days. Congratulations! You can now proudly declare that you have successfully conquered Kilimanjaro.
