7 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking Journey

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, the group will set off for Kilimanjaro National Park entrance at Machame Park Gate, located at an altitude of 5,400 feet. Here, the guides will register with the Park Service and the equipment will be weighed to ensure that the weight limits are adhered to for the porters' comfort and safety.The hike will begin through the lush rainforest, offering an opportunity to spot various wildlife, including the elusive blue monkey. The sights and sounds of the forest will surround you as you make your way towards Machame Camp, situated at an elevation of 9,800 feet. The hike on this day will last approximately 5 to 6 hours, covering a distance of 6.7 miles and gaining an impressive 4,400 feet in elevation.

Following a nourishing breakfast, the journey continues, and you'll leave the rainforest behind as you ascend to the picturesque Shira Plateau, positioned at an elevation of 11,300 feet. This section of the hike offers breathtaking views of the majestic Kibo, one of Kilimanjaro's three volcanic cones. After lunch, you'll continue the hike to Shira 1 Camp, located at 12,600 feet above sea level. The day's hike will take around 4 to 5 hours, covering 3.3 miles and ascending 2,800 feet.

As the day begins, you'll embark on a gentle ascent above the Moorland zone, passing by lava ridges that lie beneath the stunning glaciers. A well-deserved lunch break awaits you at Lava Tower, positioned at an impressive altitude of 15,150 feet. Following this, the path will lead you into the enchanting Barranco Valley, where you'll reach Barranco Camp at an elevation of 12,800 feet. This day's hike will last between 5 to 7 hours, covering 6.3 miles with minimal ascent.

The morning starts with an invigorating hike up the Barranco Wall, which rises approximately 800 feet. Upon reaching the top, you'll be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The hike then continues across scree terrain, characterized by small loose rocks, with pockets of vegetation, ultimately leading to Karanga Camp at 13,100 feet. The hike from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro's Machame Route is a challenging ascent covering 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) with an elevation gain of 678 meters (2,225 feet). The terrain is rocky, and the vegetation sparse. Barafu Camp sits at 4,673 meters (15,331 feet) and serves as the last base camp before the summit push. The most challenging day of the hike begins around 11 PM, where you'll start your journey towards Stella Point at an elevation of 18,800 feet. As you reach Stella Point, a well-deserved rest will allow you to witness a breathtaking sunrise above Mawenzi peak and the impressive crater floor.For some hikers, the journey continues to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, standing at 19,341 feet. After reaching the summit, you'll hike along the crater rim, capturing cherished photographs to commemorate this monumental achievement. The descent will then lead you back to Barafu Camp before continuing on to Mweka Camp, situated at 10,000 feet for some well-deserved rest. This day's travel time is approximately 11 to 15 hours, covering 10.4 miles, gaining 4,155 feet in elevation, and descending a staggering 9,300 feet.

The final day of the hike begins with a descent through the magnificent tropical rainforest. The trail will take you to Mweka Gate, located at an elevation of 5,400 feet, where you'll sign out of Kilimanjaro National Park. Along the way, you'll pass coffee and banana farms, offering a glimpse of local Tanzanian life and agriculture.Upon reaching Mweka village, you'll have cause for celebration as you partake in the tipping ceremony to express gratitude to the hardworking guides and porters who made this expedition possible. As a token of your accomplishment, you'll receive a well-earned Kilimanjaro certificate, commemorating your successful hike.The journey concludes with a transfer back to your Moshi hotel, where you can rest, reflect on your incredible journey, and relish the memories of this awe-inspiring adventure.
