Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Hotel – Machame Gate Trek – Machame Campsite

Your adventure begins with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, where you will be picked up by our friendly team and driven to Machame Gate, the starting point of the trek. Here, you'll complete the necessary registration procedures, and then the real journey starts. The trail takes you through the lush Montane Forest, filled with diverse flora and fauna. The trek to Machame Campsite at 3000m/9,842ft will cover a distance of approximately 13 km and take around 5-7 hours. As you arrive at the campsite, you'll find the tents already set up for you. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner and rest well for the challenges ahead.

Day 2: Trekking From Machame Campsite to Shira Campsite

After a hearty breakfast, you'll leave the camp and continue your ascent, crossing valleys and rocky ridges adorned with heather plants. The trail offers stunning views of Mount Meru, Shira Plateau, and Kibo Peak. The day's trek covers about 9 km and will take around 6-7 hours. You'll reach Shira Campsite at 3800m/12,467ft, where you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite, nestled in the beautiful Moorland habitat.

Day 3: Shira Campsite to Barranco Campsite

Today is a crucial acclimatization day. After an early breakfast, you'll trek eastward towards a junction leading to Lava Tower at 4600m/15,091ft. This helps your body acclimate to the increasing altitude. After lunch at Lava Tower, you'll continue your descent to Barranco Campsite, located at 3950m/12,960ft. The Barranco Valley offers stunning landscapes, and the campsite is situated at the base of Barranco Wall. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.

Day 4: Barranco Campsite Trekking up to Karanga Campsite

On this day, you'll tackle Barranco Wall and reach an elevation of 4200m/13,780ft for further acclimatization. The trail then takes you through ridges and valleys to Karanga Campsite at 3900m/12,795ft. After a hot lunch at the camp, you'll have some rest before an additional acclimatization trek up the scree slopes towards the southern ice field. Return to the campsite for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Karanga Campsite to Barafu Campsite

Today's trek is relatively short, covering approximately 8 km. The trail is steep, and the altitude starts to challenge you as you ascend to Barafu Campsite at 4620m/15,157ft. The landscape changes to an Alpine Desert, and the strong, cold winds from Kibo Peak and its icefields greet you. At Barafu Campsite, enjoy dinner and get some rest, as you'll prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Trekking From Barafu Hut Campsite to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Campsite

Wake up at midnight for a light breakfast, gearing up for the most challenging part of the journey – the summit attempt. The aim is to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro, just before or after sunrise. The trail consists of switchbacks on steep scree or snow, leading to Stella Point on the crater rim at 5,861m/18,640ft. From there, trek for about an hour along the Kibo crater rim to Uhuru Peak at 5895m/19,340ft. The breathtaking views will reward your efforts. After celebrating at the summit, begin your descent to Barafu Campsite for lunch. Continue to descend through Moorland and Heath zones, reaching Mweka Campsite at 3100m/10,170ft for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Descend Trek Mweka Campsite to Mweka Gate

On the final day of your trek, after breakfast, you'll continue your descent through the Montane Forest. The 9 km trek will take approximately 3-4 hours, bringing you to Mweka Gate at 1700m/5,577ft. Sign out and receive your certificate for a successful trek. Our vehicle will be ready to take you back to the hotel, where you'll be presented with your well-earned certificate, celebrating the unforgettable achievement of summiting Mount Kilimanjaro.
