Day 1  :  Nalemoru Gate (6,565ft/1,990m) – Simba Camp (8,665ft/2,625m)

We are greeted with the serene beauty of the montane forest. As we make our way through the forest, we take a moment to appreciate the beauty around us. The lush greenery and the towering trees create a sense of tranquillity that is hard to find in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We take a deep breath and feel a sense of peace wash over us. Midway through the trail, we take a break to enjoy a hearty lunch. As we sit and rest, we can see the majestic peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. As we continue our ascent, we reach the Simba Camp at an altitude of 8,665 feet. The camp is situated in a beautiful location, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We are greeted by our friendly guides and porters, who have set up our tents and prepared a hot meal for us. We are tired but exhilarated from our first day of climbing, and we can't wait to see what the next day will bring.

Day 2  :  Simba Camp (8,665ft/2,625m) climb to Kikelelwa Camp (11,980ft/3,630m)

Our climb takes us to an altitude of 11,980 feet, to the Kikelelwa Camp. The trail is more challenging than the previous day, but the stunning views make it all worth it. We traverse through undulating terrain, taking in the breath-taking views of Mawenzi and the vast Kenyan steppes. We stop at Second Cave Camp, which is located at an altitude of 3,450 meters, for a short break and to take in the incredible views. As we approach Kikelelwa Camp, we can see the camp in the distance, nestled in a beautiful location with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We are exhausted but exhilarated from our second day of climbing, and we can't wait to rest and recover before continuing our journey to the summit. The camp is a welcome respite from the rigors of the trail, and we are grateful for the warm welcome from our guides and porters. We sit around the campfire, enjoying a hot meal and sharing stories of our experiences so far.

Day 3  :  Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Hut

As we set out on our third day of climbing, we leave behind the lush greenery of Kikelelwa Camp and enter into the barren landscape of the moorland. We are rewarded with breath-taking views of the Kibo and Mawenzi summits as we make our way up the trail. The sun is shining and the air is cool, providing a welcome relief from the heat of the day. We take our time, enjoying the scenery and taking in the majesty of the mountain. As we approach the Mawenzi Tarn Hut, we are struck by its beauty. Many trekkers rate this as the most atmospheric camp in Kilimanjaro, and it's easy to see why. We arrive at the hut in good time and are greeted by our guides and porters. They have set up our tents and have a warm meal waiting for us. We take a moment to rest and refuel before setting out to explore the area. The views from the hut are breath-taking and we take many photos to remember this moment.

Day 4  :  Mawenzi Tarn Hut climb to Kibo Hut Camp

As we set out on our fourth day of climbing, we leave the stunning Mawenzi Tarn Hut behind and begin the ascent to the Kibo Hut Camp. The trail today takes us over the Kibo Saddle, a high-altitude plateau that offers breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape. As we make our way towards the Kibo Hut Camp, we are struck by the thinness of the air. The lack of vegetation and the thin air make it a challenging climb, but we are determined to reach our destination. Just before we arrive at the camp, we have to conquer one last rock passage, but the view from the top is well worth the effort. The Kibo Hut Camp is a welcome sight, with warm meals and comfortable accommodations waiting for us. As we relax and mentally prepare for the midnight summit stage, we take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 5  :  Summit Attempt and Descent to horombo hut

After a restful night at Horombo Hut, we wake up in the middle of the night for tea and biscuits to fuel up for our summit attempt. The trail is rocky and steep as we make our way up to Hans Meyer Cave, our first major landmark at an altitude of 5150 meters. From here, we continue our ascent to Gillman’s Point, the second highest point on the Machame Route, at an altitude of 5681 meters. The trail from Gillman’s Point to Uhuru Peak is rocky and steep, but the sense of accomplishment as we reach the highest point of our climb is indescribable. We take a short break to catch our breath and take in the view before starting our descent back to Kibo Hut. The descent is faster and easier than the ascent, and we can feel our muscles burning as we make our way back down to horombo Hut for overnight. We arrive at horombo Hut exhausted but exhilarated, having achieved our goal of reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Day 6  :  Descend to Marangu Gate

After spending the night at Horombo Hut, we wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the sun shining through the window. We have a delicious breakfast with the mountain crew. Today, we embark on the final stage of our journey, descending from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. The climb is approximately 20 km and takes 5-7 hours. The trail takes us through the beautiful rainforest, where we can see a variety of flora and fauna. As we descend, we can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. We have climbed to the highest point in Africa and conquered our fears and doubts. We take photos and videos to document our journey and to remember this incredible experience. Finally, we arrive at Marangu Gate, where we sign out and receive our certificates of completion. Those who reached Gillman's Point receive a green certificate, and those who reached Uhuru Peak receive a gold certificate. After signing out, we drive back to Moshi, for a well-deserved shower and some rest.
