Day 5  :  SUMMIT [GILMANS POINT - UHURU PEAK DESCENT TO KIBO CAMP] - HOROMBO HUT.

We start our final and most challenging leg of the climb, starting on a journey through the darkness with our headlamps. The trail leads us up steep switchbacks, through loose volcanic scree, as we make our way to the crater rim at Gillman’s Point (5,685 m). Here, we take a moment to rest and appreciate the breath taking sunrise over the Mawenzi peaks. For those who are feeling strong, there is the option to make the three-hour round trip to the summit and reach Uhuru Peak (5,896 m), a true test of endurance and determination. The rest of the group will continue to make their way down to Kibo (4,700 m). After a well-deserved rest, we make the descent to Horombo Camp (3,720 m), where we can enjoy a hot meal and some much-needed rest.

Day 6  :  HOROMBO HUT – MARANGU GATE

Today, we will be descending through the moorland to reach Mandara Hut, which is located at an altitude of 2,700 meters. This is the first stopping point on the Marangu route, which we will be following throughout our journey. As we continue our descent, we will be passing through beautiful lush forest, which is a stark contrast to the barren moorland that we have just traversed. The path is well-maintained, and we can expect a pleasant walk as we make our way towards the National Park gate at Marangu. This gate marks the end of our climb and the beginning of our journey back to civilization. It is important to note that today's walk is expected to take us 5-6 hours, depending on our pace and the conditions of the trail. We must stay alert and take regular breaks to ensure that we do not overexert ourselves and suffer any injuries. With careful planning and execution, we can complete this final leg of our journey successfully and return home with memories that will last a lifetime.
