7 Days KILIMANJARO TREKKING THROUGH UMBWE ROUTE

The Umbwe route on Mount Kilimanjaro is a challenging and direct path, known for its steepness and quick ascent. This route doesn't allow for proper altitude acclimatization due to its rapid climb, which can increase the risk of altitude sickness. While it offers solitude and adventure, it's recommended for experienced hikers who are confident in their acclimatization abilities. We generally discourage its use for our clients in favor of safer and more balanced routes

Along the way, you'll be treated to striking views of Kibo's glaciers and a junction linking the descent route, Mweka, with the Machame trail. Today's journey takes you past the Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers, although the terrain transitions into an alpine desert with sparse vegetation. Barafu Camp itself offers awe-inspiring vistas of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Rest is essential tonight, as you'll rise before midnight for the final ascent to the summit.

Day 6  :  Summit Day - Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Camp

The most anticipated day of your adventure has arrived. At around midnight, your epic ascent to Uhuru Peak begins, illuminated by the soft glow of your headlamp. The climb to the crater rim is the most strenuous leg of your journey, marked by steep trails. However, as you reach Stella Point on the crater rim, the path becomes gentler, though the high altitude extends the hike, making it a long and demanding endeavor. The hike along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak takes about an hour. Once you stand triumphantly at Uhuru, capture the moment with photos of your guide and fellow trekkers before embarking on the descent to Mweka Camp. As you descend, savor panoramic views of the mountain, the crater, swirling clouds, and majestic glaciers. After reaching Barafu Camp, enjoy a brief breakfast and rest. You still have another three to five hours ahead of you before you reach Mweka Camp.
