Day 1  :  Moshi to Umbwe Gate to umbwe cave

The day begins early as you depart Moshi at 8 am, filled with anticipation for the adventure ahead. Your journey takes you to Umbwe Gate, where you'll meet the dedicated team of porters, guides, and cooks who will be your companions for the next six days as you ascend to Uhuru Peak, the majestic rooftop of Africa. Upon arrival at the gate, there's a brief pause as we register your climb, and our expert porters and guides make final preparations. The first leg of your trek leads you to Cave Bivouac Camp, approximately 6 hours away from the gate. The trail is challenging, with steep sections that can be slippery. As you ascend, you'll traverse through the enchanting moss-covered trees of Kilimanjaro's mystical cloud forest. The forest gradually thins out, revealing heathers, tall grasses, and vibrant wildflowers as your backdrop. Our dedicated porters and cooks will forge ahead to ensure your camp is ready for a well-deserved rest upon your arrival.

The adventure continues as you embark on the next leg of your trek. The trail initially follows the ridge, offering breathtaking views. As you bid farewell to the forest, you'll journey through open moorlands until you reach Barranco Camp. This campsite is renowned for its scenic beauty, nestled amidst towering senecios and lobelias. Due to its location in a valley, the sun graces Barranco Camp a bit later than other camps, making it even more special

Today, you have the opportunity to explore the surroundings near Barranco Camp, allowing your body to acclimatize to the altitude. Keep your camera ready to capture the natural wonders of the groundsel-clad campsite. Many trekkers consider this their favorite camp on the trail, making it an ideal spot for an acclimatization day. If you're confident in your body's ability to adapt, you can opt for the Six Days Umbwe Route Itinerary.

After a hearty breakfast at Barranco Camp, your journey takes you to Karanga Valley. The day kicks off with a challenging 1.5-hour scramble up the imposing Barranco Wall. This section is the most demanding of the day, and you may find yourself using your hands to aid in the climb. Once you conquer the wall, the terrain levels out, and a short but steep descent leads you into the lush green embrace of the Karanga River Valley.

After breakfast, it's time to set your sights on Barafu Camp. Along the way, you'll be treated to panoramic views of Kibo's glaciers and pass by the junction that connects the descent route, Mweka, with the Machame trail. Day four presents an opportunity to hike past the Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers. While the trail to Barafu Camp winds through an alpine desert with minimal vegetation, the camp itself offers awe-inspiring vistas of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Try to catch some rest after dinner, for the ultimate summit ascent awaits before midnight

Day 6  :  Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

The culmination of your Kilimanjaro expedition begins at midnight as you set out for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak. Guided only by the light of your headlamp, the next six hours will test your endurance and determination. The initial part of the climb, leading to the crater rim at Stella Point, is the most challenging stretch of the entire trek. The journey from Stella Point to Uhuru Peak is relatively gentle, making it less physically demanding. However, the high altitude does make the hike feel long and demanding. The crater rim hike lasts approximately one hour. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, capture the moment with photos of your guide and group against the backdrop of this iconic summit before beginning your descent to Mweka Camp. On your way down from Uhuru, savor the captivating vistas of the mountain, crater, clouds, and glaciers. Back at Barafu Camp, enjoy a well-deserved breakfast and a brief respite. You still have three to five hours of hiking before reaching Mweka Camp.

Day 7  :  Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Then Back to Moshi

After a hearty breakfast, embark on the final leg of your trek with a descent to Mweka Gate. This part of your journey is a true delight, as you traverse Kilimanjaro's mystical cloud forest. Pay close attention to your footing, as the trail can be slippery during the descent. Our vehicles will be waiting at the lower station of Mweka Gate, ready to transport you back to Moshi. At Mweka Gate, you'll sign your name and details in a register book, a testament to your incredible achievement. Successful climbers will receive their summit certificates – green for those who reached Stella Point and golden for those who conquered Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Now it's time to return to Moshi, where you can look forward to a long-awaited hot shower, a delicious dinner, a comfortable bed, and celebrations to commemorate your remarkable journey.
