6 Days CLIMBING KILIMANJARO EXPERIENCE RONGAI ROUTE TOUR ITINERARY

The Rongai route is one of the easier routes up Kilimanjaro. Rongai is the only route to approach Kilimanjaro from the north and the descent is via the Marangu Route. Summit night from Kibo Hut is steep and follows the same path taken by the Marangu route which passes Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak. While it is flatter, it does not give the climb high sleep low option and therefore recommended to select more days for acclimatization. Six days is your best choice to climb Mountain Kilimanjaro.

Day 5  :   CLIMB UP KIBO TO SUMMIT THEN DESCEND TO HOROMBO HUT

After a refreshing tea break with cookies, we start our ascent towards the summit. The walk through the desert and glacier zones is a unique experience, as I marvel at the contrasting landscapes. The ground is covered with a layer of fine, white sand, while the ice and snow of the glaciers glint in the sun. As we approach Gilman’s Point, the highest point on the Rongai Route, we are greeted by stunning views of the surrounding peaks. After conquering Uhuru Peak, we start our descent towards Kibo hut campsite. The path is steep, but the thrill of reaching the summit keeps us motivated. As we approach Kibo hut, we are greeted by the warmth and hospitality of the porters and guides, who have been supporting us throughout our journey. We take a much-needed rest at Kibo hut, enjoying a hearty meal and drinks before continuing our descent towards Horombo hut campsite. The path is less steep now, and we can feel our muscles relaxing as we make our way down to horombo hut for overnight.

Day 6  :   DESCEND FROM HOROMBO HUT TO MARANGU GATE

We start our day with a hearty breakfast, taking in the breath-taking views of the surrounding peaks. As we pack up our belongings, we can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment for having reached such a high point on our journey. The descent from Horombo Hut is a steady and gradual descent, taking us through lush forests and across several streams. We take our time, taking in the sights and sounds of the natural world around us. We stop periodically to take photos and to rest, making sure to stay hydrated and fuelled for the remainder of the trek. As we approach Marangu Gate, we can feel the excitement building. We have completed over half of our journey and we are one step closer to reaching the summit. We arrive at the gate and sign our names in the register, taking a moment to reflect on our achievement. We are then driven back to Moshi, where we are greeted with a warm shower, a delicious meal, and a comfortable bed.
